Shou-Sugi Ban Vases
Shou-sugi ban originates as a Japanese process of burning wood to preserve it. These vases are made from cedar (the light wood) and walnut (brown) or padouk (red) wood as a contrasting stripe. The hardwood burns at a much higher temperature so it doesn’t burn as quickly. After assembly I burn them quickly with a torch. They come with glass inserts for live flowers but you could use them as utensil holders or something similar.
